Linens N’ Things and Office Depot to open at Stapleton
Quebec Square continues to attract new retailDenver—Quebec Square has added two more names to the growing list of stores that will open next year at the former Stapleton Airport, Forest City officials announced today.

Linens N’ Things and Office Depot are among the latest retail stores that will be coming to the regional retail center in the mixed-use development in Northeast Denver, according to John Lehigh, chief operating officer for Forest City Stapleton, Inc. Mr. Lehigh said beginning in early fall of 2002, Linens N’ Things and Office Depot will occupy 32,000 square feet and approximately 20,000 square feet respectively. He said the latest commitments bring the total space leased or purchased at Quebec Square to 562,000 square feet, which comprises more than 75 % of the retail center.

“These latest commitments from Linens N’ Things and Office Depot continue a strong response from some of our nation’s most popular retailers who are lining up to become part of the redevelopment of Stapleton,” Mr. Lehigh said in making the announcement. “The existing neighborhoods surrounding the former airport and the new neighborhoods now under construction at Stapleton will provide a welcome market when retailers at Quebec Square open their doors beginning in the summer of next year.”

"The continued addition of retail stores at Stapleton indicates great confidence in the success of this new development," Mayor Wellington Webb said. "This is an exciting time for Stapleton and we are grateful for Forest City's aggressive schedule to complete this project."

Earlier this year, Forest City announced that it had signed agreements with Home Depot, Super Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club to anchor the 740,000-foot retail center that is located on Quebec Street immediately north of the United Air Lines Flight Training Center and across the street from the hotels that once served the former airport. Forest City followed that announcement by recently reporting that Borders Books and Just For Feet would also open stores next year at Quebec Square.

In February 2000, Forest City signed a purchase agreement for all 2,935 acres of developable land at the former Stapleton International Airport. Guided by The Stapleton Development Plan, a nationally acclaimed master plan created by the citizens of Denver, the company will create pedestrian-scale neighborhoods in which 12,000 homes and apartments affordably priced for a wide range of incomes will be within walking distance of jobs, retail, schools, and public transportation. Forest City will also help to preserve more than 1,100 acres of new parks and open space at Stapleton to enhance the quality of life in its residential and commercial development.
